Gourmet Hot Dog Cook Off

Sue and I decided to have a gourmet hot dog cook off this weekend.
We were talking about all the things you could put on a hot dog and that got us arguing about who could make a cooler hot dog.
I said mine would be more awesome and, of course, Sue said hers would be. Turns out we are both pretty creative when it comes to creating gourmet hot dogs (if I do say so myself).
I came up with the Chicken Cordon Bleu Dog and the Spinach Artichoke Dip Dog and Sue's creations were the French Onion Soup Dog and the Turkey Dinner Dog.
We had a few tasters there and the results were pretty close.
First place went to my Chicken Cordon Bleu Dog
Second place went to the French Onion Soup Dog
Third place went to the Turkey Dinner Dog
and, 4th place was the Spinach Artichoke Dip Dog.
One thing all the tasters agreed on was that the Spinach Artichoke Dip was NOT very good on a hot dog. It was great on chips but just did not go with the wiener and bun.
Here are some photos of the deliciousness and the ingredients you will need to create your own!

1. Chicken Cordon Bleu Dog

Ingredients
chicken wieners
Swiss cheese slices
deli ham slices
mozza cheese, shredded
Panko bread crumbs, toasted
soft hot dog bun

Directions
Cook your chicken wiener as per your preferred method (we boiled ours). Lay a slice of Swiss cheese on top of a slice of deli ham. Place the hot, cooked wiener on top of the Swiss cheese. Roll the ham and cheese slices around the wiener. Place into a bun. Top with some shredded mozza cheese.
Place under broiler in the oven just long enough to melt the cheese. Remove from oven and sprinkle with some toasted Panko bread crumbs.
Serve hot.

2. French Onion Soup Dog

Ingredients
onions
butter
beef wieners
beef broth
Kraft Italiano blend shredded cheese
Parmesan cheese
soft hot dog bun

Directions
Cook onions in butter until they are caramelized (4 large onions and 2 Tbsp butter will take about 30 minutes over medium-low heat). Once they are done set them aside and keep them warm.
Boil the beef wieners in beef broth until heated through.
Place cooked wiener on a bun, top with generous amount of caramelized onions, top with a generous amount of Italiano blend and Parmesan. Place on a cookie sheet and then under broiler in oven just long enough to melt and slightly brown the cheese. Keep an eye on it so you don't burn the bun!
Serve hot.

3. Turkey Dinner Dog

Ingredients
turkey wieners
cranberry sauce
mashed potatoes, heated
stuffing, heated
gravy, heated
soft hot dog bun

Directions
Cook the turkey wiener as per your preferred method (we boiled ours).
Spread cranberry sauce onto bun. Place hot, cooked wiener into bun. Top with heated mashed potatoes, stuffing, and gravy.
Serve hot.

4. Spinach Artichoke Dip Dog

Ingredients
beef or turkey wiener
spinach artichoke dip, heated
Mozza cheese, shredded
Panko bread crumbs, toasted
soft hot dog bun

Directions
Cook wiener as per your preferred method (we boiled ours). Place hot, cooked wiener into bun. Top with generous amount of  spinach artichoke dip. Sprinkle with Mozza cheese and a little of the toasted Panko bread crumbs..
Serve hot.

There you have it. 4 gourmet creations from Jo and Sue. I did want to give special thank you to the ladies at work (Angie, Chellie, Angel, Kerry, Rhea, and Taylor) for all of their suggestions.
It's surprising how much fun it can be coming up with funky food creations!
