Who doesn't love chocolate and cream cheese and cookies?
Okay, if you just answered with "not me" then I don't think we can be friends.
Seriously.
I think you may be inflicted with the same disease Sue suffers from.
I call it "craziness".
These cookies not only have a ridiculous amount of deliciousness....they are so easy. You get to cheat by using store bought crescent rolls.
I won't tell if you won't.
Chocolate Chip Cream Cheese Cookies
(from Cookies and Cups)
Ingredients
1 can seamless crescent rolls
1 (8oz) pkg cream cheese, room temp
1/4 cup sugar
2 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
Directions
In a medium bowl, beat cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
Unroll the crescent roll. Stretch out the dough into a rectangle. (If you can't find the seamless crescent dough then just make sure you pinch the seams together well.)
Spread the cream cheese mixture over the top of the crescent dough - leave a gap at the edge of about 1/2 inch.
Sprinkle the chocolate chips on top. Roll the crescent roll up tightly and wrap in plastic wrap. Chill at least 2 hours, or overnight.
Once chilled - preheat oven to 350. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
Slice the cookie log into about 1/4 inch slices. Bake on prepared sheet for 10 - 15 minutes, until golden brown.
Let cool on sheet for about 5 minutes before removing to wire rack to cool completely.
I don't usually cheat when it comes to cookies but once I saw these I had to try them.
You should too.
They are totally worth it.
No effort and you get to eat cookies.
I don't see a problem with that, do you?
OH! P.S. - These are sooooo much better warm with the chocolate chips all melty. Don't be afraid to microwave them for 5 seconds to warm them up.

ReplyDeleteI made these tonight! A little too bisquity for cookies in my opinion but they were tasty none the less. Need a glass of milk to go with them. I only used half the log and kept the other half in the fridge for fresh baked cookies later. They are very filling. I think I'll have cookies for breakfast tomorrow morning!

DeleteI used one roll and it made about 24 cookies, although, they turned out a bit thin ( I probably should have cut them a little thicker)
DeleteWondering if you use the pastry dough sheets if it would be less biscuit-y.... I've used the pastry dough and tucked chocolates (options are endless) inside and pinched the tops shut then baked them... I served them drizzled with a little chocolate syrup and cool whip! Mmmm...easy!

ReplyDeleteI would recommend chilling them. I think if you skip it they might spread out too much and the cream cheese may leak out. I haven't tried it without chilling though so if you do try it please let us know how it goes!

DeleteI'm sure these will taste great one way or the other, but they are a total pain to make. The crescent dough does not cooperate the way you need it to. More trouble than its worth is my guess.

DeleteHeather, I think I know what you mean. Here's a tip when you make them. It's impossible to slice the log with a knife because it stays pretty soft after refrigeration. Use string, unflavored dental floss, or fishing line, wrap it around the log, and pull in opposite directions. The slices come out perfectly every time. Also, my fiance and I said it tastes like a combination of cinnamon roll, cheesecake, and cookie! :)

ReplyDeleteI didn't want to wait for them to cool down. I'm a high school student and had a cooking class last year, wherr my teacher gave us dental floss, we slid it under the roll, crossed it over the top, and pulled, it cuts it evenly without a problem. Didn't need to cool it!

I actually froze the cookie log in order to cut, seemed the refrigerated alone still wasn't solid enough to cut nicely.

DeleteOk. So I am posting w/o reading any previous comments. I just made these and they taste like chocolate chip cheesecake. I highly recommend freezing your roll overnight before slicing it. I have a lot of experience with crescent dough (I have an awesome recipe for an appetizer and one for a main course; both made with crescent dough).

ReplyDeleteI only chilled my log in the freezer for about 45 minutes (I wanted to leave it longer but I procrastinated) before cutting into it and it turned out fine. I used a slicing/sawing motion instead of chopping, and that helped keep the log from unrolling or deforming too much.

ReplyDeleteI used dark chocolate chips and put the dough in the freezer for about an hour to make sure it was very firm. I'd say it ess easier than making regular cookies... WOW!
Where did you find seamless crescent rolls? I've looked in a few different grocery stores and I was not able to find it anywhere! I tried to pinch the seams together but when I was rolling the dough it all popped back open :( any tips on how to keep the seam together?
ReplyDeleteIf you are pinching the seams together you have to be firm...you can unroll the dough onto a piece of parchment paper, pinch the seams firmly together, then use the parchment paper to flip the dough over onto your work space and then also pinch together the seams again on that side. Hope that helps!
DeleteI just tried this recipe and made it with the low fat cream cheese (the only kind we had) they turned out ok probably won't make them again. The cream cheese didn't really do anything it kind of just oozed out the top. almost forming an icing type thing. I think they would be great for a breakfast brunch type desert buffet but I don't usually have a lot of those to go too LOL I also used half the chocolate chips and my boyfriend and I both decided that was still too many! All in all they are ok! Fun to make! So fun to try new recipes! My boyfriends thoughts: Weird (because of the bicuit-y flavor) but good and too many chocolate chips! THanks for the recipe!
