Sue here today. I wanted to share this super quick recipe I found for puppy treats.
This is perfect for the summer when you don't want to turn on the oven.
Kenzie's puppy, Riggs, loves these straight from the freezer.
You can have these whipped up in about 10 minutes and ready to feed to your dog after they chill for 1 - 3 hours. Riggs also loves the Pumpkin Dog Treats and Bacon Peanut Butter Dog Treats we make but this recipe requires the least amount of time and energy to whip up.
No Bake Dog Treats
(From For The Love Of My Dogs)
Ingredients
3/4 cup peanut butter
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 cup water
1 1/4 cup oats
Directions
Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper or plastic wrap, set aside.
In a medium bowl, vigorously stir together the peanut butter, cinnamon, and water until combined. Slowly add the oats, 1/4 cup at a time, until completely mixed in.
Scoop by the spoonful onto prepared cookie sheet.
As you can see, I made a few big ones for Kenzie's big puppy and a few small ones for a friend's smaller puppy.
Chill in the fridge for 1 - 3 hours before feeding to your dog.
I like to freeze them on the cookie sheet and then put them into a Ziplock bag in the freezer so I can just take out one or two at a time for Riggs.

I was wondering if you could feed this to a puppy without having them get sick?
ReplyDeleteIf you are unsure of what might make your dog sick it is probably best to check with your vet. This didn't make my friend's puppy sick, nor our dog BUT if your puppy has not been introduced to these foods it might be best to ask a professional! I hope that is helpful :)

DeleteI am going to make these and try to slip in a natural supplement one of my two pups refuses to eat. The other chows it down like it was liver! Maybe these no bake balls will help disguise the supplement so pup #2 will eat his healthy supplement too. Love the idea, hope it works.

DeleteI just finished making these! :-) They are chilling in the fridge and hopefully my puppy goes wild over them. I get nervous spoiling her and using store bought treats to do so; plus I want to feed my newborn homemade baby food, why not my puppy too?!

ReplyDeleteNo. They don't have to be. They will just be soft/squishy. When they are chilled they are crunchy.

DeleteIt won't kill dogs, I was wondering about the cinnamon for a little bit but then I looked it up and realized it was all healthy!
DeleteCinnamon is good for dogs. Just make sure the peanut butter does NOT have xylitol- sugar alcohols ate very toxic!

ReplyDeleteI've never had them in the freezer more than a week but, that being said, I'm sure if they were airtight then they could probably last at least 3 months.

ReplyDeleteI've had no problems with them being frozen for a month or two. Longer than that I can't say! (Hope that helps!)

ReplyDeleteThe oats you leave uncooked. (Don't use pre-packaged "oatmeal" - just use regular oats: either quick cooking or regular will work)

ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how long they would keep on the counter but I know they freeze very well. If covered really well they would last about 3 months in the freezer.

ReplyDeleteI love the recipe but my concern is the shape which can block the trachea of an over excited dog.
ReplyDeleteMy concern too "Anonymmous". Have an elderly dog who does not chew but swallows everything whole and frozen items hurt. So I am thinking keeping them on the counter and cutting small balls into quarters for him. Keep them in the frige and not freeze. They could certainly choke if they got those larger pieces stuck in their throats. He chokes on dog biscuits. Have to break things up now. But some where back a ways in the comments, it says you can leave them on the counter. I grind my own peanut butter with dry roasted peanuts and want to use coconut oil in place of half the water.

DeleteBest treats ever. Took so little time to make and even my little picky Bella loved them. Also 9 month old pup is on medication. This treat became an awesome pill hidder.

ReplyDeleteI just made these for my Tucky's Birthday Treat today... I didn't have rolled oats so used Graham cracker crumbs... Will let u know how they turned out.. only needed 3/4 cup of the crumbs lol
