Easter Bread Ideas (#2)

Jo and I thought we should try and finish up our Easter posts this week so I am sharing my Easter Egg Bread and Bunny Bread.
It is the same recipe, which can be easily adapted to suit your tastes.
I made everyone that came for Easter dinner an egg bread for a place setting. They looked really cute on the table.
I believe Easter bread is traditionally a sweet bread but I have gone with a savory spin instead.

Easter Bread Recipe
 
Ingredients
3/4 cup very warm water
1 pkg rapid rise yeast yeast
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp seasoning salt
1 tsp Mrs. Dash
1 1/2 Tbsp sugar
1 Tbsp garlic butter
1/2 cup milk
3 - 4 cups flour
6 eggs (for centers)
 
Directions
In a large bowl, add warm water and stir in yeast. Stir in salt, seasoning salt, Mrs. Dash, sugar, garlic butter, and milk.
Mix in 2 cups of the flour to form a soft dough. Add in enough flour that you can knead the dough without it sticking too bad.
 
 
Knead until smooth.
 
 
Place in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a tea towel and place in a warm place to rise for 45 minutes.
Punch down dough. Divide into 12 equal amounts Roll into ropes approx 14 inches long. "Braid" 2 ropes together. Pinch ends together to form a circle. Line a cookie tray with parchment paper. Place dough circles onto cookie sheet. (You will have 6 circles)
 
 
Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 375.
Place an uncooked egg into the center of the circle.
 
 
Brush the egg with a little oil.
Bake for approx 25 minutes, until bread is nicely browned. (The egg will bake as the bread bakes so there is no need to pre-boil the egg.) If you want to make this with dyed eggs - simply dye the egg uncooked!
 
 
With a simple twist and a little ball of dough, you can also shape the bread into bunny shapes....
 
 
These were perfect for the Easter bake sale we baked for.
 
 
I believe I got 12 bunnies from a batch of dough.
I have to say I normally have a lot of trouble with bread but this recipe seemed to work really well. I made about 4 - 5 different batches and they all turned out.

I think next time I will try a sweet version just to compare.
